A funeral home in New York City has opened a new option for funeral-dining enthusiasts, offering pizza to the dead at a cremation.
Lobster and fish tacos are now available for order at the funeral home’s funeral service.
Funeral director, Mark McAllister, told CNN that the idea for the service came from an experience of his own.
McAllister said he noticed the cost of cremating people was skyrocketing.
He realized the pizza and lobster would provide a much-needed service.
The funeral home is currently serving 10 people at a time, but McAllisters hopes to expand to 100 or more people next year.
Funerals can be costly, but funeral home owner John Visser said funeral service prices were dropping for many years because cremation was cheaper.
Vissler said he had heard about other funeral homes opening up funeral homes to help reduce funeral costs.
“It’s a win-win,” he said.
“If we can save someone from the funeral, then people will come to the funeral.
If we can provide the service and the comfort, then the funeral is a success.
It’s a great opportunity to do something good.”
