The Washington Capitals and Dallas Stars have reached a five-way deal on defenseman Braden Holtby, the league announced.
The deal is worth an average of $4.3 million over five years, per NHL.com.
The Capitals are expected to receive an NHL-worst 19th-place finish in the Eastern Conference and the Stars are expected the worst record in the NHL.
The two teams traded forwards Braden Morrow, Alex Goligoski, Erik Johnson, and a fourth-round pick to the New York Rangers for Holtby.
The move will likely boost the Capitals’ roster for next season, which is expected to be very strong.
They’re expected to make the playoffs for the first time since 2009.
